HOT VERTICAL COVER
The best way to expose yourself in 2009 is by taking cover under one of interior’s freshest design trends: wallpaper. Just ask Oprah—you know if she touts the stuff, it has to be hot. “Wallpaper is really everywhere, but if you’re looking for what grandma used to have, you won’t notice it,” says Gina Purdy, owner of Purdy’s Wallcoverings. These days, you can find everything from feathers to metallics to oversized florals in the designs, and look no further than The West Wing, Ocean’s Twelve and Thirteen for plenty of examples in motion.
Carmen Christensen, owner of Time2Design, was turned on to the stuff by the wallpapering guru. Christensen uses mega prints for a dramatic impact and a more modern feel when decorating clients’ spaces. Christensen has taken to designing a room around the wallpaper choice, rather than the other way around. “There’s such fabulous paper out there, you can pick that first and make it the inspiration for the room,” she says. —SW Purdy’s Wallcoverings, 1188 North Tamiami Trl., Ste. 101, Sarasota, 941-358-2231; Time2Design, 1882 Porter Lake Dr., Ste. 106 Sarasota, Fl 941-378-9964
